From protest songs, to tributes to the landscape, to good-old fashioned love songs, folk music has long been a unifying force in America. This Machine Kills Fascists (TMKF), which takes its name from a slogan on Woody Guthrie's guitar, is a guitar-playing robot that performs classic American folk songs on a portable stage. Lyrics and sheet music for the songs are printed and hung from the sides of the stage, to encourage audience members to sing along. The creators of this project hope to reveal the ability and limitations of technology to create community. Check out TMKF in action.
While it's a really interesting project, we don't think it'll take the place of college hippies just yet. Read more about TMKF here.
