On this day in 1987, Aretha Franklin broke a barrier to become the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

Watch Aretha perform with Annie Lennox at the Hall of Fame's 25th Anniversary celebration!

While the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is still sorely lacking in female inductees, Aretha Franklin's induction in 1987 paved the way for phenomenal female talents, such as Bonnie Raitt (2000),  Etta James (1993), Gladys Knight (1996), Heart (2013), Janis Joplin (1995), Joan Jett (2015), Joni Mitchell (1997), Patti Smith (2007) among others.

We look forward to seeing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recognize more female talent in the future!
