Scott Weiland would have been 49 years old today. Overcome by his addictions, his brilliant life was cut short on December 3, 2015. Today, we're celebrating his life with 5 things you might not have known about the front man for Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Underground and The Wildabouts.
1. He rarely used the internet
Scott was largely unaware of rumours about his band, because he wasn't on social media. He told Rolling Stone, "I really have paid no attention to social media. It's never been something that I've done. There are people that put up tour dates and basically say what's going on, but I need to get more involved, because I hear about rumors that are absolutely ridiculous."
2. He loved pitbulls!
In fact, he had two of them. The first was Buckley, but when wife, Jamie, asked for a kitten, he gave her a second pitbull, named Beatrice, instead!
3. He wrote a New York Times Best Seller
In 2012, Weiland's memoir Not Dead & Not For Sale was an instant New York Times Bestseller. It chronicled the roller coaster highs and lows of the rock star's life, from rock stardom, to addiction and incarceration, and back again.
4. He was most influenced by David Bowie
Weiland often cited Bowie as one of his greatest influences and even covered Bowie's Andy Warhol with Stone Temple Pilots early in his career. Listen to it here.
5. He would have voted for Hillary
When Sirius XM's Todd Shapiro asked him what he thought of a Trump presidency, he responded, "That'd be a nightmare!" Listen to the full interview!
